Edgartown is a beautiful place to explore whether you prefer to wander by foot, pedal a bike, hop on the bus or cruise in your car.
Getting Around
On foot: Downtown Edgartown is extremely walkable and easy to get around. Many visitors opt to spend the entire day or the entire week exploring by foot and see most of what Edgartown has to offer.
By Car: If you’re driving on Martha’s Vineyard, don’t expect any highways or stoplights. Instead you’ll find a lot of open road and coastal driving. Don’t miss our picture perfect beach drives from Oak Bluffs to Edgartown or along South Beach. If you plan to park in downtown Edgartown in the summer months allot extra time as space is limited. Take advantage of the Edgartown Park & Ride location which is located by the Edgartown Triangle and offers free parking and shuttle service via the Vineyard Transit Authority.
By Taxi: Several local companies offer taxi and private car service from the airport and ferry terminals, around Edgartown and beyond. Call in advance to make a reservation.
By Bike: Cycling is another great (and environmentally friendly) way to explore Martha’s Vineyard. Our protected bike paths make for even surfaces and safe rides, from Oak Bluffs to Edgartown, down to Katama and even from Edgartown to West Tisbury. Our friendly bike shops are waiting to get you on two wheels and direct you all over town. Click here for a helpful Martha’s Vineyard bike map provided by the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce.
By Bus: Martha's Vineyard is home to the Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA), which offers a comprehensive bus system that connects all towns: Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, Vineyard Haven, Aquinnah, Chilmark, and West Tisbury. Frequency of service varies with the season, but buses run regularly and reliably year-round and are a great cost-effective way to see the beauty of the Island. You can pay as you go, or purchase 1-day, 3-day, or 1-week bus passes on the buses or at the Steamship Authority. All VTA buses are handicap accessible, and are equipped with bike racks. The Church Street, Edgartown VTA bus stop is centrally located to downtown Edgartown and offers the only public restroom in town.
